Venice

Venice

As a painter, one of the unique features of Venice for me is the abstraction of light and colour, created by the reflections of its facades and the movement of the river traffic – a moving magic mirror and a  constant joy. The buildings of Venice, with their stucco surfaces are decorated with pigments that are of the earth itself, and these, illuminated by brilliant sunlight and reflected in the canals have, in an abstract sense, a breath-taking appeal. To find a personal way  to paint Venice, when one is aware of all the artists who have worked there, took many visits and it wasn’t until we had a studio there that I began to understand what was important to me and found my own way of interpreting it.
